Job Readiness Contests
General Contest Guidelines
The purpose of “Job Readiness” contests is to provide a competitive event for students with varying abilities, to provide an opportunity for social interaction, to challenge the job skill level of students, to keep training relevant to employer’s needs, to reward students for excellence, and to enhance the self-esteem of students.
Job Readiness competitions are an active part of the SkillsUSA Oklahoma contest season. Job Readiness contests will follow the same rules and regulations of all contests overseen by SkillsUSA Oklahoma when it comes to deadlines, registration and fees, and contest policies. Contest locations and regional breakdowns can be found on the official SkillsUSA Oklahoma website during contest season.
Eligibility
Students participating in a Job Readiness competition must be enrolled in a modified career and technical program that meets their individualized needs. The Job Readiness competitions, with the possibility of modifications and accommodation, should more closely meet the students’ needs than an already existing contest. Also, the skills performed in the contest must be a part of the program’s curriculum.
Rules
A student member may participate in a maximum of two contest types. Job Readiness has both regional and state level competitions. Review contest options carefully so as not to miss out on qualifying requirements. The combination of contests include:
One Job Readiness skill contest and one Job Readiness leadership contest
OR
One Job Readiness skill contest and one SkillsUSA leadership contest
The official contest list, including number of students per instructor and campus eligibility, can be found on the Competitive Events List, located on the SkillsUSA Oklahoma website.
All participants must meet requirements set forth by the Secondary Schools Associations.
All participants must be accompanied by one or more school officials.
Placements for all contests will include 1st through 6th place for both secondary and postsecondary students. Students will be recognized with regional medals or ribbons, depending on placement.
The top three placements in both secondary and three postsecondary in regional contests will qualify to move onto state level competition.
